As many of you know, since the beginning of this year, my husband and I have been making a pretty solid effort to reduce our intake of foods that are made with artificial ingredients. We cut out basically anything processed, and kicked our sugar habits to the curb, and I have to say, it feels really good knowing that we’re only putting real, whole foods into our bodies. The one thing we just can’t quit though… the occasional cocktail. We have three kids under the age of five, and for sanity’s sake, sometimes we like to unwind after a long and trying day with a tasty adult beverage. Finding a recipe for a cocktail that doesn’t include a ton of sugar can be really tough. Finding one without sugar, that is fruity, tasty, and refreshing for the warm nights that are finally upon us can be even tougher. Thanks to the clean ingredients in Zevia sodas, we have found a new favorite mixer.
Zevia is naturally sweetened by Stevia, a small shrub that provides 200x the sweetness of sugar, yet has no caloric value and does not raise blood sugar values. Their soda is clear in color, gluten free, vegan, and Non-GMO project verified. It’s available in amazing classic flavors, like Ginger Root Beer, Dr. Zevia, and Cola, as well as fruity flavors, like Grape and Lemon Lime.
It just so happens that Zevia’s Black Cherry flavored soda provides the perfect pop of flavor and fizz for my new favorite sugar-free mojito recipe. Is there anything better then a fresh mojito when it’s starts to get warm outside again? I think not. I’m already envisioning myself sipping on these all summer long, while lounging on our deck.
Now let’s get down to business…
- 6 fresh mint leaves
- the juice of half a lime
- 1.5 oz (or one shot) of white rum
- 1 can of Black Cherry Zevia
- 1. Add the fresh mint to the bottom of a glass with the lime juice and muddle the mint leaves (if you do not have a muddler, you can use the end of a wooden spoon).
- 2. Fill the glass with ice.
- 3. Pour the rum over the ice.
- 4. Top with Black Cherry Zevia
- 5. Garnish with a lime and enjoy!
