Five Year Olds Are Tough, It’s All About Compromise

September 8, 2017 by Jessica 6 Comments

If I’m being honest, five year olds can be pretty tough sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, most days Max is still as sweet as can be, but as he grows older, and becomes more independent, there are moments when we don’t exactly see eye to eye like we used to. In the past year he’s really begun to understand how the world works, and started to test his boundaries…. not wanting to clean his room, arguing for more time on his tablet, refusing to share with his younger sister and brother… typical five year old behavior, right? As he continues to grow, I don’t doubt that there will only be more things that we disagree on, which is why I have learned to value the things that we do agree upon, that much more.

Lately, Max wants to be in charge of everything, while I just want him to listen, and to maintain a little piece of my sanity. He wants to dress himself, choose his own activities, and even pick his own meals. When it comes to what he wants to eat, more often than not, he chooses one thing, while I want him to have another, and with him being in kindergarten now, you can only imagine how this has been a big source of stress for me. I want to allow him to have a say in what we pack in his lunchbox every day, but I also want him to choose and eat the right things. I’ve been trying some new options lately to “test the water”, and we recently gave Lunchables Organic a spin. I’m not sure if it was the fact that he felt like he was the boss as he prepared his own pizza, or if it was because he loved the way that they tasted (perhaps it was a combination of both), but either way, they were a HUGE hit! I love that Lunchables Organic are USDA certified organic and free of artificial preservatives, flavors and colors*, and Max loves playing chef and eating pizza. He had so much fun creating his own meal, and I felt like I was winning at this whole motherhood gig as I watched him eat every last bite with a big smile on his face. It really is the little things!

As I learn to accept the fact that my child is officially a kindergartner, I’m also learning to choose my battles, and to allow my five year old some of that independence that he’s craving… it really is all about compromise, and when it comes to what he’ll be eating for lunch this school year, Lunchables Organic is the perfect compromise.

You can find Lunchables Organic at Target, Kroger, Meijer, select Albertsons and Safeway, and be sure to check out Lunchables on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to learn more.
